How to Write a Great Layer Story

Every Layer Has a Story

A photo shows what you own.

Your Layer Story explains why it matters.

It's your opportunity to tell people why this item became part of your life and what it says about you. A great story turns an ordinary product into something memorable.

Think of it this way:

The photo gets attention.

The story creates the connection.

Tell People Why You're Proud to Own It

The best Layer Stories answer one simple question:

"Why does this matter to me?"

Every item has a reason for being in your collection. Maybe you worked hard for it. Maybe it was a gift. Maybe it's become part of your daily routine or reminds you of an important milestone.

Those personal details are what make people stop scrolling.

Ask yourself:

  • Why am I proud to own this?

  • Why did I choose this one?

  • What makes it special?

  • What memory does it bring back?

  • Why would I buy it again?

Those answers become your story.

Great Layer Stories Focus on Experiences

Don't describe the product.

Describe your relationship with it.

Instead of:

"Rolex Submariner."

Write:

"This was the first big purchase I made after earning my first commission check. Every time I wear it, I'm reminded of years of hard work finally paying off."

Instead of:

"Titleist T100 Irons."

Write:

"These were a birthday gift from my dad after I finally broke 80. They've been in my bag ever since, and every round reminds me of that season."

Instead of:

"Solo Stove Bonfire."

Write:

"Some of my favorite nights happen around this fire pit. Friends come over, stories get told, and nobody seems to want to go inside."

Instead of:

"UPPAbaby Vista."

Write:

"This stroller has been with us through neighborhood walks, vacations, and both of our kids' first years. Looking at it reminds me how quickly those moments pass."

Keep It Personal

You don't need to write a novel.

Most great Layer Stories are 2–6 sentences.

Write naturally, like you're telling a friend why the item matters to you.

People connect with authenticity—not perfect writing.

Don't Copy the Product Description

Anyone can search for product specifications.

Only you can tell:

  • Why you chose it.

  • Why you love it.

  • Why you're proud to own it.

  • What memories it has created.

  • Why it has earned a place in your collection.

That's the information people actually want.

Inspire Someone Else

People often discover your Layer because they own the same item—or because they wish they did.

Your story helps them understand why it's worth owning.

Sometimes they'll think:

"I want one of those."

Other times they'll think something even more meaningful:

"I want experiences like that."

That's what makes Layer different.

Remember

Your collection isn't valuable because of the things you own.

It's valuable because of the experiences, memories, milestones, and passions behind those things.

Every Layer has a story.

Together, they tell yours.
